Ford Van Wheel & Tyre Fitment Guide | Transit Custom, Transit 350, Connect
Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012-2023)
The Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012-2023) uses a 5x160 PCD with a 65.1mm centre bore. The largest factory wheel specification was 18x7.5J, with factory offsets including ET50 and ET53.
They use M14x1.5mm 60-degree tapered-seat nut, these factory nuts are quiet large and often dont fit into aftermarket wheels so it is important to check the correct bolt type for your chosen wheels.
When purchasing wheels from us, we will always supply the correct wheel bolts required for the specific wheel, provided bolts are purchased with the wheels.
Ford Transit Custom Gen1 (2012-2023) Load rating Guide
When choosing wheels and tyres for your Ford Transit Custom Gen 1, it is important to select a suitable load rating for the van's axle weights. The Custom has been available in a number of different weight classes, depending on model and generation, with the most common being 260, 280, 290, 300, 310 and 320
260: Up to approximately 1,575 kg front / 1,415 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 788 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 99 or higher.
280: Up to approximately 1,575 kg front / 1,415 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 788 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 99 or higher.
290: Up to approximately 1,575 kg front / 1,575 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 788 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 99 or higher.
300: Up to approximately 1,675 kg front / 1,590 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 838 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 100 or higher.
310: Up to approximately 1,650 kg front / 1,640 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 825 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 102 or higher.
320: Up to approximately 1,725 kg front / 1,725 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 863 kg per wheel / tyre, meaning Load Index 103 or higher.
Ford Transit 350 Load Rating Guide
The Ford Transit 350 is available with different axle ratings depending on the body length, drivetrain and vehicle specification. The following are common single-rear-wheel (SRW) configurations:
350M Medium Wheel Base FWD/SRW: Up to 1,750 kg front / 2,150 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 875 kg per front tyre and 1,075 kg per rear tyre, meaning Load Index 111 or higher and wheel weight rating of 1075kg or higher
350L Long Wheel Base FWD/SRW: Up to 1,750 kg front / 2,250 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 875 kg per front tyre and 1,125 kg per rear tyre, meaning Load Index 113 or higher and wheel weight rating of 1125kg or higher
Some 350L versions: Up to 1,850 kg front / 2,250 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 925 kg per front tyre and 1,125 kg per rear tyre, meaning Load Index 113 or higher and a wheel weight rating of 1125kg or higher
350M AWD/SRW: Up to 1,850 kg front / 2,150 kg rear axle load. This requires a minimum tyre load of 925 kg per front tyre and 1,075 kg per rear tyre, meaning Load Index 111 or higher and a wheel weight rating of 1075kg or higher
Exact axle weights can vary depending on the vehicle's specification, body length, drivetrain and equipment, so you should always check the VIN plate on your Transit 350 before selecting wheels or tyres.
The wheel load rating must also be suitable for the vehicle's axle weights. The tyre and wheel have separate load ratings, and both must be capable of safely supporting the required load.
Please note: Transit 350 models with twin rear wheels have different load requirements and should be checked separately.
Important Load Rating Information
The tyre load rating and wheel load rating are separate. Both the tyre and wheel must be capable of safely supporting the vehicle’s plated axle weights.
These figures are intended as a guide. Exact axle weights can vary depending on the generation, model, engine, wheelbase, transmission and vehicle specification, so you should always check the axle weights shown on your vehicle’s VIN plate before selecting wheels or tyres.
For higher-rated 320 and 350 models, particular care should be taken to ensure that both the wheels and tyres are rated appropriately for the vehicle’s axle weights.
Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023) Wheel and Tyre Guide (not T350, which is covered below)
16" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023)
16" wheels are a great choice for owners looking to achieve the popular ‘swamper’ look, while offering a wide choice of wheel styles and tyre options.
Common aftermarket wheel specifications are around 7J–8J wide, with offsets typically around ET45–50.
This size is perfect for upgrading your factory steel or alloy wheels, with standard 215/65R16 or slightly larger 225/65R16 tyres providing a more factory-style setup. For a more rugged look, the popular 235/65R16 All-Terrain tyre works well on standard-height and slightly lowered vans.
For a larger, more aggressive appearance, 225/70R16 can be used on suitable standard-height vans, while 235/70R16 All-Terrain tyres can provide a maximum swamper look on raised vans.
As always, the correct load rating, wheel specification and clearance should be checked for the individual vehicle before fitting.

17" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023)
17" wheels are a great choice for the Ford Transit Custom, offering a good balance between style and comfort , although wheel and tyre options are little more limited in this size.
Common aftermarket specifications include 7J–8J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET45–50.
For a more factory-style setup, 215/60R17 is a standard factory tyre size, while 235/55R17 was also offered by Ford, including on Sport models.
For a higher-profile setup, 235/60R17 provides additional sidewall, helping to fill the arches and improve ride comfort, with some All-Terrain options also available in this size. The largest swamper size we would recommend is 225/65R17 All-Terrain, which provides a more aggressive swamper appearance while maintaining a relatively sensible width. This size is best suited to vans with sufficient clearance, particularly raised vans.
As with all alternative tyre sizes, the correct load rating, wheel specification and clearance should be checked for the individual vehicle before fitting.

18" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023)
18" wheels are a popular choice for the Ford Transit Custom, offering a much wider selection of wheel styles and finishes for those looking to achieve a more sporty and stylish appearance, but can also be used with an All Terrain set up.
Common aftermarket specifications include 7.5J–8J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET45–50.
For a factory-style setup, 235/50R18 is the standard 18" tyre size, also used on Ford Sport models.
Unless you have a specific reason for using the factory size, we would recommend a slight increase in profile. 245/50R18 provides a little more sidewall while also giving the van a slightly wider stance, helping to improve ride comfort aa well as having a higher load rating. For a larger increase in profile, 235/55R18 provides even more sidewall, offering the biggest improvement in ride comfort while helping to fill the arches. This size is also available in a range of commercial-van and All-Terrain tyres, making it a popular choice for a more rugged appearance.
As with all alternative tyre sizes, the correct load rating, wheel specification and clearance should be checked for the individual vehicle before fitting.

19" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023)
19" wheels are available for the Ford Transit Custom, offering a sporty and premium appearance. However, this is not as common a size, so both wheel and tyre options are more limited compared with 16", 17" and 18" fitments.
Common aftermarket specifications include 8J–8.5J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET40–50.
The main 19" tyre size is 235/50R19, which provides a good balance between appearance, comfort and load capacity. Suitable commercial-van tyres are available in this size with high load ratings, making it suitable for higher-weight Transit Custom models where the correct specification is selected.
For a slightly wider and sportier appearance, 245/45R19 can also be used with suitable wheels, giving a wider footprint while maintaining a similar overall diameter.
19" wheels are best suited to road-focused and sportier setups, rather than higher-profile or swamper-style applications. The lower tyre profile gives a sharper appearance, although ride comfort will be reduced compared with the larger-profile options available with 16", 17" and 18" wheels.
As with all alternative tyre sizes, the correct load rating, wheel specification and clearance should be checked for the individual vehicle before fitting.
20" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit Custom Gen 1 (2012–2023)
20" wheels are a popular choice for the Ford Transit Custom when achieving maximum visual impact is the priority. They offer a much more aggressive and premium appearance, although tyre and wheel options are more limited and ride comfort is reduced compared with smaller wheel sizes.
Common aftermarket specifications include 8J–8.5J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET40–50.
For a lower-profile, sporty setup, 255/35R20 is a popular option, while 245/40R20 provides a little more sidewall, helping to improve ride comfort and fill the arches.
20" wheels are primarily suited to road-focused and styling-led builds, rather than swamper applications. Due to the larger wheel diameter and lower tyre profile, careful consideration should be given to load rating, wheel load rating and clearance, particularly on higher-weight Transit Custom models.
As with all alternative tyre sizes, the correct load rating, wheel specification and clearance should be checked for the individual vehicle before fitting.
Ford Transit 350 (2014-) Wheel and Tyre Guide
The Ford Transit 350 (2014-) uses a 5x160 PCD with a 65.1mm centre bore. The largest factory wheel specification was 16x6.5J, with factory offset of ET60.
They use M14x1.5mm 60-degree tapered-seat nut, these factory nuts are quiet large and often dont fit into aftermarket wheels so it is important to check the correct bolt type for your chosen wheels.
The pre 2014 Tranist Vans also use the same fitment wheels but the Bolt spec is M14x2mm 60-degree tapered-seat nut
When purchasing wheels from us, we will always supply the correct wheel bolts required for the specific wheel, provided bolts are purchased with the wheels and correct details of Van is supplied on the order.
16" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit 350 (2014-)
16" wheels are the most popular choice for the Ford Transit 350, offering a good balance of durability, comfort and tyre choice, while also allowing higher-profile tyres for a rugged ‘swamper’ look.
For the Heavy Duty Transit 350 models, the standard 235/65R16 tyre size can be retained, or increased to 235/70R16 for additional sidewall, improved ride comfort and a fuller appearance.
For a more aggressive swamper look, the maximum tyre profiles of 225/75R16 or 245/70R16 All-Terrain tyres can be used where suitable, depending on the van's suspension, wheel specification and required load rating.
Always check the correct tyre and wheel load rating, along with clearance, before fitting.

17" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit 350 (2014-)
17" wheels offer a good balance of style and comfort for the Ford Transit 350, although the selection of wheels and correctly load-rated tyres is more limited.
Common aftermarket specifications include 7J–8J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET45–50.
For a factory-style setup, 235/60R17 is a popular choice, with suitable commercial, load-rated tyres available. For a larger swamper look, 245/65R17 All-Terrain tyres can be used where suitable, depending on the van's suspension, wheel specification, available clearance and required load rating.
Always check the correct tyre and wheel load rating, along with clearance, before fitting.
You can find all our Ford Transit 350 17" wheel options HERE
18" Wheel / Tyre Fitment, Ford Transit 350 (2014-)
18" wheels can be used on Ford Transit 350, offering a more modern and stylish appearance, although they are less common than 16" and 17" fitments and the choice of correctly load-rated tyres is more limited.
Common aftermarket specifications include 7.5J–8.5J wide wheels, with offsets typically around ET45–50.
For a larger and more aggressive swamper-style look, 255/60R18 All-Terrain tyres are our recommended 18" size. This provides additional sidewall and ground clearance while giving the Transit a much more rugged appearance but these may need triming to the front arches, smaller tyres do not have the correct load rating so this is something to consider when going for 18's.
It is essential that a commercial or All-Terrain tyre with a suitable load rating is selected. For Transit 350 models with a 2,250kg rear axle, each rear tyre must be rated for at least 1,125kg (LI113).
Always check the vehicle's plated axle weights, the specific tyre's load index, wheel load rating and available clearance before fitting
